Where to Stay in Ketchikan for a Fishing Trip
Where you sleep in Ketchikan matters more for a fishing trip than a regular vacation, because your day starts around 6 a.m. at Clover Pass. There are two sensible options, and we can help with either one.
Option 1: Stay near Clover Pass (easiest fishing mornings)
Our charters meet at Clover Pass Resort, about 15 miles north of downtown and a 20 to 25 minute drive. Staying at or near the resort means rolling out of bed and walking to the boat, and being right there when the processing crew hands you your fish at the end of the day.
The resort has waterfront rooms and its own marina, and it has been a Ketchikan fishing base since the 1950s. Guests staying there can usually arrange a sack lunch for the boat and a meal waiting when you get back in, which is worth having after a full day on the water. There are also smaller rentals in the immediate area that we can point you toward. Availability changes season to season, so ask us when you book and we’ll share our current recommendations, including places our guests have used and liked.
- Zero-stress 6 a.m. departures
- On the water, away from cruise-day downtown crowds
- Simple logistics for multi-day fishing
Option 2: Stay downtown (more restaurants and walkability)
Downtown Ketchikan has the bigger share of hotels, restaurants, and things to walk to, plus Creek Street and the waterfront. The trade-off is the morning drive to Clover Pass, 20 to 25 minutes that start around 5:30 a.m. on a full-day trip. If you stay downtown, plan your transportation the night before; we also have access to a rental car for guests, so ask us what makes sense for your group.
Our advice
If fishing is the point of the trip, stay near Clover Pass and spend your evenings there watching the water instead of commuting. If your group splits between anglers and shoppers, downtown works fine with a little morning planning. Either way, tell us where you’re staying in your trip request and we’ll help with the morning-of details.
